What are Black Holes?

Black holes are regions of spacetime where gravity is so strong that nothing, not even light, can escape from it. They are formed by the collapse of massive stars, and are so dense that they create a deep gravitational well.

Endless Voids

Black holes are often described as 'endless voids' because anything that falls into them is believed to be lost forever. This includes matter and radiation, which are sucked in and seemingly disappear.

Portals to Another Universe?

Some theories suggest that black holes could be portals to other universes. This is based on the idea of a 'wormhole', a hypothetical structure of spacetime that could create shortcuts for long journeys across the universe.

Event Horizon

The boundary around a black hole beyond which nothing can escape is known as the event horizon. It is the point of no return.

Singularity

At the center of a black hole is a singularity, a point where the curvature of spacetime becomes infinite and gravitational forces are extremely strong.

Hawking Radiation

Stephen Hawking proposed that black holes emit radiation, known as Hawking Radiation. This theory suggests that black holes could eventually evaporate and disappear.
